In yesterday's edition, we reported that a young boy from Dijon saw a strange luminous phenomenon in the sky on Thursday evening.
We received two letters from our readers about this incident.
One of our correspondents wrote:
"I was looking toward Place du Trente-Octobre when suddenly, high up in the sky, there appeared a bluish then blazing glow, roughly shaped like a 'V', followed by a multitude of enormous, extremely bright sparks of fire. The object descended diagonally at a dizzying speed toward the earth, in the direction of Fort de la Motte-Giron. It was very visible and blindingly bright."
As for the other witness, an air force officer, he provided a (very plausible) explanation of the phenomenon:
"Returning home on the evening of Thursday, November 4, 1954, to my residence on Rue de Metz, I was at the beginning of Rue de Gray when I saw, with my trained eyes as a military pilot, the so-called 'saucer.'
"It was a magnificent meteor or fireball, with a very bright East-to-West trajectory. Duration of the phenomenon: barely one second."
