THE MAYOR'S "FLYING CIGAR" WAS SEEN IN THE DOUBS

One of our colleagues publishes the testimony of a schoolteacher, Mr. Gazon, who, last Wednesday around 8 p.m., was returning home by car to Filain in Haute-Saône. Mr. Gazon had left Besançon. He had just passed the town of Rigney when he saw "emerging on his left an object that had the oblong shape attributed to flying saucers."

"It was certainly not an aerolite," Mr. Gazon specified, "because those generally fall like a shower; this object, on the contrary, was moving horizontally at very high speed, from left to right. It was impossible for me to estimate either its approximate size or the distance at which it was from me. To the eye, it gave me the impression of an object that might have been about fifty meters long, that is to say quite large. It was accompanied by a fluorescent glow of bluish tint."

Our colleague also cites information from his correspondent in Rougemont: "A resident of Montagney, returning from Rougemont on Wednesday evening, was very surprised to discover in the sky an immense glow coming from a sphere about the size of the moon when it is full. Quickening his pace, he returned to the village and alerted his neighbors. The luminous object, although smaller than before, was still clearly visible. Six people were able to observe it. The saucer, if it truly was one, was moving from east to west. It should be noted that this direction coincides with that indicated by Mr. Gazon."

For our part, we note that this "appearance" coincides with the one witnessed at the same hour on Wednesday evening by Messrs. Laurent, mayor of Saint-Dizier, and Daunay and Leclerc, both railway workers (see our Saturday issue). If there was indeed a saucer or a cigar, was it the same one? In that case, the considerable distance separating the observers gives an idea of the altitude at which the mysterious aircraft was traveling.
